I had a wonderful time meeting with all of you last week during parent teacher interviews. If you have any concerns that have cropped up since interviews, please feel free to contact me. I have introduced several new things in our classroom based on the feedback I got from parents during interviews.
Many of you told me that you're having a hard time getting your child to read at home. I thought that by introducing the March Reading Challenge, it might be some incentive for your child to do more reading. We talked today in class about the importance of reading every night and the children agreed that the only way to get better at reading is to practice. I told them that their reading can be from any type of text (newspaper, magazines, books, etc). Home reading books count. Have fun with it!
As we prepare to move into double digit addition and subtraction, we need to ensure that we are fast at single digit addition and subtraction. Starting today, your child will be taking home a math game, dice, and counters each Monday. They will keep this game at home for the week and will return it on Friday with their BEE Books. Please take some time to play this game with your child! It will be a fun way to practice important math facts.
The children have new pouches in their BEE Books. They will keep their "alphabetical order" words in there and they can also keep money/tokens in there if they wish.
Today, I spoke with each child individually about his/her report card and what he/she should continue to work on for the rest of the school year. I typed up two goals for each student and posted them on their desks. Each child has a 10 frame on his/her desk and when I see that they are working hard to reach their goals, they will get a check mark in their 10 frame. When the 10 frame is full, they can trade it in for a prize. I was amazed by the hard work that everyone did today in hopes of earning check marks. Keep it up, grade two! :)
On Friday (March 9th), the grade 8 class will be holding a fundraiser spaghetti lunch. For the cost of $3, your child can order spaghetti and garlic toast. It will be a meatless sauce and will be available for order with money or tokens.
Permission slips have been sent home for our field trip next week. Please sign and return them as soon as possible.
Have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Roberts :)
