Hat and PJ Day!

This Friday, April 20th we will be having a pajama and/or hat day in support of Easter Seals. Children can wear their hat or pajamas for the day and can bring in a donation in support of this important cause. The Easter Seals Ambassador will be visiting our school next Tuesday.

Happy Sunny Monday!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend! :)
  • Book orders went home today. They are due back on May 3rd.
  • Please return the paper maché eggs to school as soon as possible. Thanks!
  • We are missing several books from our classroom library. These are books that would have been sent home for home reading and not returned. Please check around home to see if you have any of the books from school. Thank you!
  • Thanks to everyone that has sent in science supplies and bottle caps. We will be starting our special project the end of this week.
  • Picture proofs were sent home today. All orders are due back by April 26th.
  • There will be a book swap at school this Friday, April 20th. Children can bring in books from home that they are no longer wanting and can switch them for new ones!
  • Permission slips were sent home today for our field trip next week to the hockey game. Lunch is provided (hot dog, baked potato, carrots and white milk). If your child does not like these lunch items, he/she can brings his/her own lunch. Please return permission slips as soon as possible. There is no charge for the field trip.
  • It was brought to my attention today that some parents are not checking the blog regularly and are therefore missing out on important information. I will be sending home a note tomorrow asking for you to check off whether or not you want paper copies of the blog posts sent home. Please return it as soon as possible.
  • It appears that the spring weather has finally arrived! Hooray! Snow pants are not needed anymore, but it is recommended that children have splash pants, because the playground is often wet and muddy.
  • A reminder that the Drama club will be taking part in the Drama Festival at 6 pm this evening at The Confederation Centre. They will be presenting their play "Faded Blossom Ninja Retirement Home" written and directed by Michael Pendergast.   Family members and friends are encouraged to come along to see the production!
  • Today we had a very powerful presentation from Bluefield High's RAP team (RAP stands for: respect, accept, and protect). The high school students spent 90 minutes presenting about bullying - and how we can STOP bullying. We will continue to flex our superhero muscles and be active bystanders when we see bullying at school, on the bus, and at home. Some of the content from the presentation was very deep, so if your child is asking questions, that might be why. If you have any concerns or questions yourself, please contact me.
Have a wonderful week!

Another GREAT website!

If you have not yet used the website Tumble Books, I highly recommend it! It is a website with an online database of books. The books are read aloud to your child and there are often comprehension questions at the end (quiz)! There are pictures to go along with the read aloud and many of the popular books and authors that we study in school are on this database. Robert Munsch is a favourite, and on Tumble Books he reads the stories himself! :)

For those of you interested in trying it out, going through the provincial library site is the best option (because if you go straight to the website, you need to enter a password). The address is: http://library.pe.ca/. Under the "Library Services" section (on the front page, not the side menu), click on "TumbleBooks - eBooks for Kids." Then you just click on "Story Books" or whatever kind of reading you want to do.

This is a wonderful way for your child to enjoy a good book when you might not have the time to sit down and read to them.
Enjoy! :)

A few more notes for the week!
  • Tomorrow (Thursday) there will be a bake sale with all money going towards the grade 8 field trip at the end of the year. All items will be 50 cents.
  • Friday will be "Wear Pink" day. Bring $1, wear something pink, and support anti-bullying programs!
  • Wanted: plastic caps for our next science project (caps off milk jugs, pop bottles, water bottles, etc)! Please send them into school by next Monday at the latest. Thanks!

I hope that you all had a wonderful long Easter weekend! :)

Just a couple of things:
- For spelling homework this week, the children only need to have 8 points.
- Book orders are due on Friday, April 13th.
- We are still looking for science supplies that you might have around the house (paper towel rolls, egg cartons, etc).
- The children are going to take their paper mache eggs home to show you. We would like to have them back on display for a future Art expo, so please make sure that your child brings his/her egg back next week. They will be sent home for good after our Art celebration in May! Thanks!

Happy Easter Weekend!

We had another wonderful week in grade two! Ms. Feehan is teaching most of the day now, although I am in the classroom to help out and spend some extra one-on-one time with students. I've had a chance to read with almost everyone this week and I am impressed by the progress I am seeing! Keep it up!

Our Easter eggs are completed and turned out beautifully! Here is a picture of them on display in the computer lab. We've had lots of compliments on them!

Today we did some spring art! We are hoping that it will cause the weather to warm up! :)

Our library day will now be on Day 1 each cycle. Please remember to send library books back on Day 1! Thank you!

Tomorrow there will be optional school pictures. Ms. Feehan and I also have a special surprise planned for the children, since we never got to have our sledding day. :)

Have a fabulous long weekend with your children. Happy Easter!

This Week's Homework

I just finished reading over the BEE Books and I wanted to say that the children did a wonderful job of their new homework! :) Keep it up!

Because the next couple of weeks are short ones, the children will only need to do 8 points (instead of 10) for thier homework.

Let's have a great week!
