Reminders for this week

  • Parent Teacher Interviews are this Thursday and Friday (March 1st and 2nd). Interview times were sent home with your child last week. If you did not receive the paper with the interview time, please let me know as soon as possible. In most cases, we booked you in for the same time as you had for interviews last time. If the time does not work for you, please contact the office, or send me an e-mail and let me know. I look foward to talking with all of you!
  • Report cards will be sent home on Tuesday. Please take some time to look it over with your child and celebrate his/her success in school! :) I am very proud of each and every one of them!
  • There will be no school on Friday, due to interviews.
  • If possible, please try to send money for tokens on Mondays only. It is much quicker for the children to buy all of their tokens for the week on Monday, instead of having to go down and do it each day.
Let's have a fabulous week together! :)

What a Week!

We had a very fun and exciting week in grade two! Valentine's Day was full of fun stations, Winter Carnival was a huge hit (and was on the nicest day of the winter), and our 100th day of school was fantastic! Thank you to everyone who contributed treats for our "100 day buffet"! Here are some pictures of the highlights of our week!
Our beautiful Valentine's Day artwork! There was a lot of time put into this piece of art and the children worked very hard! They experimented with splatter painting, sponge painting and painting with bubble wrap. I was so proud of their hard work and the finished products were beautiful. I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did!
Our "100 Day Treat Buffet" - Yum!

We practiced our counting by putting 20 candy on our grid at a time. At the end, we got to eat 10 and take 90 home! :)

I hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend with your family. We certainly have lots of snow for playing in! See you on Tuesday for a fun week of learning!

Winter Carnvial

Winter carnival was cancelled today due to the cold weather. We will be having our Winter Carnival tomorrow, Wednesday, February 15th. Please ensure that your child has appropriate outdoor clothing.

Happy Valentine's Day! :)

Next Week's Events

Next week there will be some fun and exciting events in our classroom. Tuesday is Valentine's Day. The morning will be spent doing friendship related activities and stations. In the afternoon, all students will be participating in Winter Carnival activities. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately, as many of the activities will take place outdoors. Snowpants are necessary! If your child has an extra set of mittens/gloves, it might be a good idea to send them in case the first set gets wet.

Next Thursday (Feb. 16th) is our 100th Day of School! Wow! We will be having stations to celebrate and we will also have a special surprise! :) If you would like to contribute to our special surprise, I would greatly appreciate it. We are looking for the following things:
- Smarties
- Small Marshmallows
- Goldfish crackers (or similar small crackers)
- Chocolate chips
- Pretzels
- Raisins
- Any other small edible item
We will be putting these items on a 100 chart (grid), so they need to be quite small. If you are able to donate any of these items (or something of your choice), please let me know in advance (so that I know what to buy). You can write me an e-mail to let me know (caroberts@edu.pe.ca) or you can send a note to school with your child. We would need them all for Thursday, Feb. 16th. Thanks!

Candy Grams are being sold tomorrrow (Fri) and Monday for $1. All proceeds will go to the Upper Room. Children can choose who they want to send their Candy Gram to and it will be delivered on Valentine's Day. They can also be bought for friends/family members who aren't at school. The Candy Grams are laminated bookmarks with a treat or laminated hearts with a candy bracelet.

We have been discussing bullying in Health class. One of our favourite songs/books about bullying is "Don't Laugh at Me". It teaches a very important lesson. I found a YouTube video of it and I highly recommend that you watch it with your child and take a few minutes to discuss it. Bullying is a serious issue and we're doing everything we can to teach children at a young age that "words can hurt". Here is the video: Don't Laugh at Me

Have a great weekend! :)

Social Studies Homework

Your child took home some extra homework today. It will be due on Friday. We have been discussing advancements in technology and how certain inventions have made our lives much easier (running water, telephones, televisions, etc). Your child's task for this week is to talk to two people and ask them for their opinion on the most significant technological advances over the years. Each person will choose 3 things and will record them on the sheet that your child was given. We will be gathering the information to see if there are any commonalities. I have encouraged the children to ask people from different generations if at all possible (for example, they could survey a parent and a grandparent). Have fun with this!

Thanks to everyone who participated in Family Literacy Day! If you have any feedback from the day, please feel free to e-mail it to me. We'd love to know what you thought of the event!

Have a great week!
