We had another fantastic week of learning! I feel so blessed to get to spend every day with your children. They add so much happiness to my day! :)

We had a wonderful time at our field trip to the Pow wow. There was lots of dancing and smiling! The children were very interested in learning about the culture and we will be doing some follow up activities to learn even more! I was not allowed to take pictures during the dancing, but was able to snap a few pictures during lunch. They got to eat at "The Wave" at UPEI, which was quite exciting. Big booths! :)

Today we put the finishing touches on our paper maché project! Can you guess what we have turned our balloons into? The children did a great job with this project!

If you guessed that we made easter eggs, you were right! :) We will putting them on display in the school until the end of next week and then they will be sent home to enjoy over the Easter holidays.

***There were 5 children missing today in our class, so they did not get to paint their Easter eggs. If you were one of these children, don't worry! Mrs. Roberts has a special painting session planned for you on Monday!***

We are starting a new Science unit on "Relative Position and Motion".
We are looking for the following items for this unit:
  • Toy cars/vehicles/dinkies (they will be returned)
  • Toilet paper and/or paper towel rolls
  • Empty egg cartons
  • Cardboard milk cartons (any size)
  • Film canisters
  • Kleenex boxes
Items can be sent in as soon as possible. Thank you!

Have a wonderful weekend! Get outside and enjoy the sunshine...spring is here! :)

I hope you're enjoying your storm day!

Grade 2R’s Spelling Homework Choices

Directions:  You can choose your spelling exercises for the week! The numbers you choose need to total 10 points. So, for example, you might choose to do #3 and #5 (6+4=10 points) or you might choose to do #’s 5, 7, & 1 (4+4+2=10). You decide (as long as it equals 10)! All work can be done in your scribbler inside your BEE Book (with the exception of #7). Please specify at the top of the page which number you have chosen to do. Spelling exercises are due on Friday as usual.

To earn your 10 points you can choose from the following:

      1. ABC Order (2 points): Write your words in ABC (alphabetical) order.

2. Sentences (6 points): Write one sentence for each spelling word.

3. Creative Story or Journal Entry (6 points): Write a story or journal entry with at least 8 of the spelling words in it. Underline the words.

4. Rhyming Words (2 points): Choose 6 spelling words and write a rhyming word next to each one.

5. Creative Words (4 points): Choose 5 spelling words. Cut letters out of a magazine/newspaper to spell those words. Glue them in your notebook.

6. Vowel Practice (2 points): Write each spelling word three times. Circle the vowels in the word.

7. Word Typing (4 points): Type each spelling word on the computer and either print the paper off or get your parent to help you e-mail it to Mrs. Roberts (caroberts@edu.pe.ca).

8. Letter Writing (6 points): Write a letter with at least 8 of the spelling words in it. The letter can be to anyone you want and can be written in your scribbler. Underline the spelling words.

Happy Spelling!

Pictures!

Take a peek at our adventures from before March Break! :)

On Monday, we made "goop" in science. It is a mixture of cornstarch and water. The children got to see the changes that it went through. When they squeezed it in their hands it became a solid, but as soon as they let go, it would turn into a liquid! We had lots of fun learning about it!

Later in the week we started our paper maché project! We mixed flour and water together and it turned into a paste. We dipped strips of newspaper in the paste and smoothed the strips onto balloons. This took us 3 days, because we needed to do 3 layers, letting the paper maché dry each time. It was a messy project, but I was amazed at how well the students worked. The finished product is going to be beautiful! :)

All 26 balloons hung up to dry in our classroom!

We had a wonderful time on our field trip to the art gallery and CARI pool. I took some pictures of the little artists at the art gallery, but was not allowed to take pictures inside the pool.

Finally, on our last day of school before March Break, we had a St. Patrick's Day celebration and did some special salt art with our book buddies!

I hope that everyone had a fabulous March Break! I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow! We will be keeping the paint shirts at school, but if you need yours returned, please let me know. I took them home and washed them and they're all ready to go for our next project!

There will be some changes to homework starting this week, so stay tuned for more info on the blog tomorrow.
